Dogs: 500 Pooch Portraits to Brighten Your Day by Michelle Perkins

"I have been given a free copy of this book
in exchange for my honest opinion"

Everything in this book is all about the pets we adore Dogs. They could be sitting, standing on all four, laying down, and just being silly and loveable, this is what this book is all about! There are so many images to check out and look at for inspiration, which makes for a great idea book and starter for those who are interested to take portraits of their own dogs or another.

The author has each dog naturally posing for the camera with none of those horrible image problems I usually get when taking photos of my dogs, red-eye or glare. Every cute close-up, side view, the expressions of the dog's face at the time of the capture, and the adorable moment of these playful puppies are all captured and seen throughout this book. It's hard to pick favorites as each provides acuteness, making them all quite memorable and adoring.

Lastly, I feel this is extremely a great way to get introduced to taking excellent dog photographs. There is also a great relaxed feeling that comes with viewing the adorable and silly dogs inside this book. That might just be me, but any animal that you adore so much, including cats can be fun to watch and see in action, reducing stress and bringing joy into one's mind instead.

Rescue Rabbits: Portraits & Stories of Bunnies Finding Happy Homes by Susannah Maynard

"I have been given a free copy of this book
in exchange for my honest opinion"

The book, Rescue Rabbits is a collection of cute portraits of adorable rabbits, each with inspirational stories to be read. Of course, they aren't long, but short stories about a paragraph in length. Providing a great example of combining the connection of a picture and a story that might not be known with the photo being shared. Plus, if anyone is interested in doing the exact same thing, this is a great way to learn how one can combine a story and photo to complement each other.

In this book, each story paired with the photos really makes it hard not to forget the names and style of the rabbits in this book. Almost as if you read the story and put the book away. The next time you open the book and look at the photo, the memories of the story come rushing back into your memory. Additionally, the book provides very clear photographs that are just outstanding! So it's hard to not forget any of the bunnies especially if there wasn't a story, but I think each portrait and story really make for one impressive photography book!

Lastly, I"d like to say that the book really leaves an emotional impact on me. I feel this connection with each rabbit when I can understand the past through their story and get a glimpse of the rabbit in their joyful and free state in the photos. I really feel something for each of these bunnies, but to see them in a pleasant portrait, I feel better to know they are safe and surviving.

Fancy Rats: Portraits and Stories by Diane รถzdamar

"I have been given a free copy of this book
in exchange for my honest opinion"

Fancy Rats aren't the typical pet photography you normally see framed up! However, this book is about sharing the love of rats in a more precious and adorable way. I feel the lighting, the setting, and the theme in each photo are well placed, making for clear and nicely taken portraits. Honestly, I even can rethink the fearful and unique animals, rats being quite cute and loving as they are seen in the photos of this book.

They appear so innocent and cute while being well placed in each scene for the picture to be taken. The different angles and setup of each scene bring much more attraction to the photo. I sort of can relate to having a pet rat, because I use to play with my mom's when I was young. She had two rats and they weren't as bad as many might make them out to be, quite smart and as many pets, listen quite well. So even if one can't get around the idea of owning a rat for a pet or taking their photograph, this book really brings the cute and beauty of them out, almost like one could be looking at a puppy or kitty cat!

Of course, just like any other pet, this is a great example book of taking nicely lit and close-up photographs of an animal. It proves one can make the small critters, as furry as these rats or not, to be as beautifully photographed like any other. This book is an inspiration and another guidance to excellent photography.

About the Authors:

Diane รถzdamar is a self-taught senior illustrator, photographer, and graphic designer, born in France and currently residing in Montrรฉal, QC, Canada. She has always loved art in all its forms. Her very first passion was drawing and painting, yet she craved to expand the scope of her artistic abilities and fell in love with photography when her father gave her a camera for her eighteenth birthday. Diane has been taking pet rats pictures since 2006, to find good homes for the abused and abandoned rats she fostered. She noticed the images not only got people interested in adopting these rats but also helped others overcome their phobia of rats and/or their negative stereotype. A large collection of these pictures was exhibited during the 2011, 2012, and 2013 editions of the annual show “Animal Expo” in Paris, France, where Diane gave lectures about general rats care and maintenance, and informed visitors about these lovely creatures.
